Garden Patio Furniture – How to Save Money

Some of the best places to pick up new garden patio furniture are garage sales and thrift stores. Many times, people will walk right by an older set, not seeing the potential it has. These can be picked up for a bargain, and with just a little hard work, you’ve got a brand new looking set!
Take wrought iron, for example. Older wrought iron patio sets can be made over with some scrubbing and repainting. They are so expensive to buy new, but if you happen to find one used and can fix it up, no one will ever suspect that you didn’t buy it straight from the store.
With the new paints and such that are out now, you can do the same with plastic patio furniture! There are now spray paints available at the hardware and home improvement stores that are specifically formulated to bond with plastic.
Give that cheap plastic garden patio furniture you found at a yard sale a good scrub down, let it dry thoroughly, and then go to town! Paint it a beautiful color, and if you’re feeling creative, you can even tape part of it off and spray a second color, to create a design.
Even wooden outdoor furniture can be spruced up. It just take some more time and effort. Sand it down thoroughly, then stain it. Yeah, it’s time consuming, but good wood furniture is very expensive, so think of the money you can save. Make sure to finish it with a good water sealer/varnish when you’re done staining, so the wood will last for years to come.
Garden benches are a great addition to your yard, too, and people often have them available at moving sales. The same refinishing techniques and guidelines apply, and once you’ve made it beautiful again, set it out in your favorite part of the garden or yard to enjoy the scenery.
These benches are great ways to watch the kids while they’re playing, and they can be dragged over to join your other garden patio furniture when you have guests over and need additional seating.
